A Kernersville swim coach was sentenced to prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to charges of possessing child pornography, court records show.
Ryen Anthony Haskins, 27, pleaded guilty to nine counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the records.
Judge David Hall sentenced Haskins to serve an active prison sentence of 18 months to six years and 10 months, and Hall gave Haskins two suspended sentences of 20 months to seven years in prison, the records show.
Hall put Haskins on probation for three years after he completes his prison term. Haskins must provide authorities with a DNA sample, and he cannot live in a home with a minor child, according to court records.
Haskins was accused of photographing and recording “material containing visual representation(s) of young girls between the ages 8 to 14 performing sexual acts,” according to arrest warrants.
While in prison, Haskins will be given sexual abuse education and treatment as well as a mental health evaluation, according to his plea arrangement. Haskins also must register as a sex offender for 30 years, and he must not be in the presence of a minor unsupervised.
Members of the Invictus Task Force, a group of law enforcement agencies investigating sexual abuse, identified Haskins as a suspect after receiving a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said in early February.
Haskins worked for Infant Swimming Resource of the Triad as an instructor, according to several web pages set up for his business.
The organization said in a statement that all ISR instructors are certified by that organization, but each instructor operates their own businesses as independent contractors.
