Houston apologizes for email celebrating huge win that was sent after loss

The Houston football program has apologized after sending a celebratory email to fans following Saturday’s 35-11 loss to Texas Tech.
The email from Houston Athletics encouraged fans to buy tickets for the upcoming homecoming matchup against Arizona on Oct. 18 to celebrate the win over Texas Tech.
“Cougars Win!” the email said in large font.
“The Big Win Was Just The Beginning — Come Home For Homecoming!” it continued. “After an incredible victory over Texas Tech, it’s time to keep the energy rolling.”
The email was accidentally sent after the template was made to send if the Cougars would have actually won the game.

Houston later apologized for the mistake on X.
“We made a mistake,” the post said, before explaining what happened.
“We are aware of an email that was inadvertently sent on behalf of Houston Athletics by a third party contractor, which incorrectly mentioned a win against Texas Tech.
“Ultimately, Houston Athletics is responsible for the error. We apologize to our fans, our ticket holders and Texas Tech for the mistake.”
The loss was the first of the year for the Cougars, who are now 4-1 on the year. As for Texas Tech, the Red Raiders improved to 5-0 with the win and are currently ranked No. 9 in this week’s AP Poll.
Up next, Houston will travel to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State on Saturday, before returning home for a homecoming matchup with Arizona.
