Fair City bosses confirm Maclean Burke's future on soap after Damien Halpin exit

Fair City bosses have confirmed that actor Maclean Burke has left the show for now.

His character Damien Halpin is known as one of the RTÉ show’s longest serving characters and has dealt with some of the biggest soap storylines in Ireland.

This includes a domestic abuse story in which Damien was physically and verbally abused by his wife Suzanne.

Damien went on to find love again with Mairead Casey and the couple married during the Covid pandemic.

But when Damien’s mental health spiralled as a result of his sister Laura being killed by his brother Mark, Mairead struggled to cope – and found comfort and solace in his best pal, Dean Dowling.

Before long, the duo embarked on an affair behind poor Damien’s back.

The truth was revealed to Damien in recent scenes, and he made the decision to leave Carrigstown for Munich.

After a final singsong with old friends in McCoys, Damien bid farewell.

Now, fans are wondering what this means for the future of the character on the show as there are now currently no members of the Halpin family in Carrigstown.

Bosses have confirmed that actor Maclean Burke has left the show for the time being, but the door is most definitely open for Damien to return.

A Fair City spokesperson told RSVP Live: “Damien Halpin is set to leave Carrigstown after 27 years, marking Maclean Burke’s departure from the show for now.

“While Damien’s storyline takes him away from Carrigstown, he remains an integral part of the wider community.

“As Fair City fans will know, you never can predict when old faces might return!”

Maclean Burke first joined the cast of Fair City in 1998 as Damien – the eldest of the Halpin children – alongside siblings Laura and Mark and parents Marty and Tess.

Away from Carrigstown, Maclean will star in this year’s 3Olympia Panto, Olly Goes To Oz, alongside Ryan Andrews, Al Porter and Traitors star Paudie Moloney.
