Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold a protest today, Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in Accra, opposing what they refer to as the “misapplication of justice” by the administration led by John Mahama.
The NPP alleges that the government is misusing state authority to target former officials and supporters through prosecutions that are politically motivated.
Salam Mustapha, the party’s National Youth Organiser, confirmed the protest, stating that all necessary arrangements with the police have been completed.
“In accordance with the Public Order Act, we were required to notify the police five days in advance. This provides sufficient time for both parties to prepare. They also requested our agreement on the routes we would take and all pertinent details. Therefore, everything is currently in order,” he said.
This demonstration comes in the wake of a series of arrests involving notable NPP members. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, was recently apprehended by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), while another regional chairman, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC, was taken into custody by the police.
The party asserts that numerous other members and supporters have also been arrested under what it perceives to be politically motivated investigations.
The NPP states that the purpose of today’s protest is to draw attention to what it describes as the government’s “selective application of justice” and to advocate for equitable treatment of opposition figures.
