EXCLUSIVE: Signature Entertainment has acquired UK and Irish rights to dinosaur-fuelled action-adventure Primitive War from Sparke Films.
Pic stars Ryan Kwanten (True Blood), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) and Nick Wechsler (The Boys).
Set in 1968, deep in the jungles of Vietnam, a recon unit ventures into an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing platoon—only to find themselves fighting for survival against an unexpected enemy: prehistoric dinosaurs.
The film had a US theatrical release earlier this year following a panel and trailer launch at San Diego Comic Con – a first for an Australian production. Signature will release in UK and Irish cinemas later this year.
Primitive War is written and directed by Luke Sparke (Occupation: Rainfall) and based on the 2017 sci-fi military novel series of the same name by Ethan Pettus. Producers are Sparke with Carmel Imrie and Carly Sparke (Occupation: Rainfall).
The film also includes actors Anthony Ingruber (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Aaron Glenane (Interceptor), Carlos Sanson Jr (Bump), Ana Thu Nguyen (Mortal Kombat 2), Adolphus Waylee (Nautilus), Richard Brancatisano (The Messenger), Marcus Johnson (Talk to Me) and Jake Ryan (Savage).
The deal was negotiated by Signature’s Acquisitions & Development Executive Max Hart and Sparke Films.
Hart said: “Primitive War is a rare gem and the kind of film that rarely comes to the independent market. Luke and his team have done an incredible job, setting a new standard for what indie sci-fi action can be. We couldn’t be more delighted to be its home in the UK & Ireland.”
