Award-winning BBC dramaWaterloo Road returns for season 16 and there’s plenty happening at the eponymous high school in Greater Manchester. Most intriguing of all the new and returning faces and relationships at the school, though, is scheming media studies teacher Darius Donovan – played by stand-up comedian Jon Richardson – who has arrived to ruffle a few feathers.

Comic Richardson announced his Waterloo Road arrival as part of an April Fool’s Day prank in which he’d implied he was giving up comedy to become a teacher, though even the man himself has admitted “my school would have been closed down if there was anyone approaching Darius Donovan working there”.
Equal parts charming and devious, Donovan is ambitious and uses his background in the TV industry to convince skeptical teachers that his motivations are noble instead of entirely self-serving.
After a guest appearance in season 15, former headteacher James Rimmer (Jason Merrells) is back at the school permanently as a school counsellor and confidante to current head Dame Stella Drake (Lindsey Coulson). Drake has her own concerns this season, as her grandchildren Ben and Hope (Fintan Buckard and Savannah Kunyo) join the school as she tries to juggle the dynamic between work and family.
Elsewhere, dinner lady Nicky Walter (Kym Marsh), pupil-turned-trainee-teacher Donte Charles (Adam Thomas), history teacher Neil Guthrie (Neil Fitzmaurice) and deputy head Joe Casey (James Baxter) are all back in the popular award-winning drama that does much to put forward topical issues that affect real people in British society in a nuanced way.
Read on as we explain how to watch Waterloo Road season 16 online from anywhere.
