Congratulations are in order for the pioneering work done by Nobel Prize recipient John Clarke in the development of quantum computing (“3 scientists earn Nobel physics prize,” Page A3, Oct. 8). We should pay attention, however, to the statements he made after receiving notification of this award. Clarke indicated that the cuts made to research funding by the current administration would “cripple science.” He went on to say, “If this continues … it may take a decade to get back to where we were half a year ago.”
This is an ominous warning from a man who knows what he is talking about.
It is time for all Americans to end this assault on scientific research, if not for ourselves then for the sake of the next generations.
