The Member of Parliament for the Bekwai Constituency, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has expressed deep concern over recent security threats in his constituency and the danger they pose to residents.
In an exclusive interview with Asaase News, Poku-Adusei emphasized the need for urgent action by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to address the growing security challenges confronting the area.
The MP cited several incidents that have heightened public anxiety about safety. He mentioned an altercation between two youth groups at Asokwa, a suburb of Bekwai, which was allegedly drug-related and left several young men with cutlass wounds.
He also referred to a stabbing incident at “Friday Friends” or “Green Annex,” a popular entertainment spot that resulted in a fatality, as well as a gunshot incident at Esiase, reportedly linked to a land dispute.
Ralph Poku-Adusei therefore called on the MCE and the Municipal Security Council to take immediate steps to address these threats.
He stressed the need for authorities to ensure that residents feel safe and secure, urging them to take concrete action against suspected drug cartels and youth gangs operating in the area.
He also called for thorough investigations into the stabbing and gunshot incidents to bring the perpetrators to justice and to develop strategies to prevent future occurrences while enhancing security across the constituency.
Poku-Adusei further appealed to the government to support efforts to improve security in Bekwai. He explained that strengthening security infrastructure and providing additional resources would help tackle the growing threats more effectively.
