GWR: Chef Hilda Baci officially sets record with largest Nigerian jollof serving

Famous Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has made it into the Guinness World Records again with her latest cooking achievement. She set a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an incredible 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz).

This record was achieved on Friday, 12 September 2025, in partnership with Gino Nigeria. Guinness World Records confirmed the success and praised Hilda for her effort. Hilda described the moment as the result of “nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork,” and said it took 1,200 kg of gas to cook about 16,600 plates of rice, which were “served with joy, love and community.”

The event took place in Lagos and attracted huge crowds, including food lovers and fans who came to witness the historic moment. To make the dish, Hilda and her team used around 250 bags of rice, along with fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions, and spices all locally sourced to highlight Nigeria’s rich food culture.

Hilda first became known around the world in 2023 when she broke the record for the longest cooking marathon, which made her an international star. Talking about her new record, she said she was proud not just to break another record, but to showcase Nigerian food to the world.

The massive cooking project was made possible with the help of professional chefs, volunteers, and technical experts, who made sure everything was done safely and correctly. More than just a cooking challenge, the event is being seen as an important moment in celebrating Nigerian culture and inspiring national pride.
