Tommy Mellott of Butte, Montana State cut by Saints

BOZEMAN — The New Orleans Saints have released former Butte High and Montana State star Tommy Mellott from their practice squad, they announced Tuesday.
The move comes about a month after the Saints signed Mellott. The Las Vegas Raiders selected the 2024 Walter Payton Award winner in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL draft and cut him before the 53-man roster deadline in late August.
Mellott’s release leaves five former Bobcats in the NFL: linebacker Troy Andersen (Atlanta Falcons), edge rusher Daniel Hardy (Chicago Bears), defensive back Ty Okada (Seattle Seahawks), LB Alex Singleton (Denver Broncos) and defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez (San Francisco 49ers). The Pittsburgh Steelers released Bozeman native and ex-MSU wide receiver Lance McCutcheon last month.
Andersen is eligible to come off the Falcons’ physically unable to perform list, but there was no update on the Dillon native’s status as of Tuesday.
Hardy, Okada and Singleton are all on 53-man rosters (Singleton is a team captain). Valdez is on the practice squad but might be elevated to the 49ers’ active roster this week.
