Dodgers vs. Phillies: The matchup
The Dodgers busted out of a pitcher’s duel in a big way Monday night and held off a late Phillies comeback bid to take a 4-3 game victory and 2-0 series lead. Dodgers starter Blake Snell allowed just one hit and walked four over six scoreless innings, while pinch-hitter Will Smith and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani delivered run-scoring singles in the seventh to help LA open up a 4-0 lead.

The Phillies showed fight and brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth, an Otto Kepler fielder’s choice and a Trea Turner groundout ended the threat with Dodgers reliever Roki Sasaki getting the final out. The Phils dropped a second straight game at home to get pushed to the brink of elimination. The Dodgers get two shots in Games 3 and 4 to finish off the series and continue toward their goal of repeating last season’s World Series title.
If the Phillies can bounce back in Game 3, the teams will head to another elimination Game 4 set for Thursday in LA. And if a Game 5 were to be necessary, that one is scheduled for Saturday in Philadelphia.
