The Portland Interscholastic League announced its 2025 Hall of Fame inductees on Wednesday. The list includes 36 members, and a former city basketball star.
Here is a breakdown of the 2025 PIL Hall of Fame, listed in school order, alphabetically:
Benson
Darren Cooper, class of 2001
Cooper lettered twice in basketball, and was a first team selection in the all-state and all-PIL teams. In 2001, he set the state record for free-throw percentage, making 26 of 26 in the tournament.
Kory Murphy, class of 1991
A first team all-PIL honoree at wide receiver and second team all-state selection as a senior after gaining over 1,000 yards and 14 touchdowns. A member of the 1990 state championship track and field team, he finished fourth in state in the 100-meter dash. Also a member of the 1994 Oregon Ducks Rose Bowl team.
Guy Nelson, class of 1988
A two-time all-PIL defensive end and two-time all-state honorable mention on the gridiron. Murphy played two years of football at Walla Walla Community College and then finished his collegiate career at Portland State.
Kisha Swafford-Gayhart, class of 1998
A track and field state champion in the 100- and 200-meter dash events and the 4×100-meter relay as a senior. Also played basketball and was a second team all-PIL selection as a senior.
Christian Tujo, class of 1989
A four-time district placer in swimming, competing in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard medley relay. Also competed in football, playing as a member of the 1988 PIL championship team and was a second team all-league selection. All-PIL second team selection as a pitcher in baseball with a 6-1 record and 2.8 ERA as a senior.
Cleveland
Howard Lao, class of 2010
A six-time PIL champion in track and field, competing in the hurdles and set the state meet record of 14.32 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles as a senior. Competed at Washington collegiately and now coaches track and field at Cleveland.
Sam G. McIntyre, class of 2007
Member of the 2006 PIL championship football team, league defensive player of the year and all-star of the Les Schwab Bowl in 2007. Named to the all-PIL team as a junior and a senior, and also an all-PIL centerfielder in baseball.
Julie Ann Willis, class of 1975
Played basketball, volleyball and threw javelin on the track team. Played shortstop on the CYO softball team (before softball was a sanctioned OSAA sport) and won two city championships and was named as an all-star in 1973.
Daniel Winn, class of 2010
Finished sixth in the cross country state championship as a junior and was the runner-up as a senior. Won state titles in the 1,500 and the 3,000 three years in a row. Went to Oregon and helped the Ducks to cross country national titles twice.
Emma Wren, class of 2015
Won PIL cross country championships as a sophomore and a junior, and was a member of three PIL championship teams. In track and field, won the Class 5A state champion in the 3,000 as a junior and won PIL titles in the 1,500, 3,000 (four times) and the 4×400-meter relay (three times). Was a member of the Warriors’ medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay state championship teams.
Franklin
Scott Aker, coach
Coached at Franklin from 1992-98, then coached at Wilson from 1999-2017 and returned to Franklin from 2018-20. Finished with a combined 351-346 record, was named PIL basketball coach of the year seven times. Also had tenures as the athletic director at Franklin and Wilson.
Ken Bolder, class of 1968
All-PIL and all-state selection in football as a senior. Finished third in the wrestling state tournament as a junior and was fifth as a senior. Played football for two years at the Air Force Academy after high school.
Grant
Denise Griffith Jensen, class of 1973
Was the PIL all-around gymnastics champion in 1970 and 1971. Won the all-around state championship, as well as state championships in the floor exercise, uneven bars and balance beam. Was an AAU junior national champion and qualified for the Pan-American Games at 15 years old.
Ted Notos, class of 1978
All-PIL and all-state honoree in baseball as a junior and senior, and led the district in wins and strikeouts both years. Played two years at Linn Benton Community College and won conference championships in 1979 and 1980. Coached at Colton High School from 1994-2005.
Ida B. Wells (formerly Wilson)
Joe Bozikovich, class of 2004
First team all-PIL football honoree three years in a row and was the PIL Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior. Played four years at Boise State and was a member of the 2006 Fiesta Bowl team.
Cory (Nakata) Drewes, class of 1995
All-PIL first team selection in volleyball as a junior and senior. Helped the team win the PIL title in 1994. In softball, was an all-PIL first team and all-state selection as a senior and helped the team win the PIL title in 1995. Played softball at Yale.
Lisa Gunderson Romig, class of 2000
Won the PIL high jump championship as a junior and a senior and also took the state title in 2000. Won the pole vault state championship as a sophomore and was the state runner-up the other three years. Competed in track at Portland State.
Jackson
Laura Matthews Stanford, class of 1980
Named first team all-PIL and first team all-West Division in volleyball and softball. Second team all-PIL and first team all-West Division in basketball.
Jefferson
Mike Barnes, class of 1960
Played as a member of PIL championship football teams as a junior and senior and helped the Democrats win the state championship as a junior. Names as an all-PIL halfback as a senior. Won the PIL basketball title as a junior.
Paul Green Sr., class of 1963
Won the PIL track and field championship in the 880-yard race with a school record 1:56.7. Member of the PIL and state championship teams in 1963. Finished fourth in the nation in the 880 at the regional Junior Olympics.
Terrence Jones, class of 2010
Three-time all-PIL selection and all-state as a junior and senior. Averaged over 30 points, 13 rebounds and five assists as a junior and senior. As a senior, was named the Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year and a McDonalds All-American. Went to Kentucky and won a national title in 2012. Drafted No. 18 in the NBA Draft in 2012 by the Houston Rockets.
Denmark Reid, class of 1993
Three-time all-PIL first team selection in basketball and named to the all-state team as a junior and a senior. As a junior, helped lead the Democrats to the PIL championship and a third-place finish at the state tournament. Named PIL Player of the Year as a senior.
Jeff Thomas, class of 1988
As a senior, selected as a first team all-PIL member as a quarterback and defensive back. Helped lead the Democarts to the PIL basketball championship as a senior.
Lincoln
Michael Grewe, class of 2011
Member of the Cardinals’ 2010 and 2011 PIL basketball championship teams. In baseball, named the PIL Pitcher of the Year as a junior and was the PIL Player of the Year as a senior. The Cardinals won the city title both years.
Tess Michaelson, class of 2014
In track and field, won state championships in the 400-meters and 4×400-meter relay as a junior. Won 12 Metro League championships between the 400, 800 and 4×400-meter relay. Competed in the 800 collegiately for Stanford.
Sean Sosnovec, class of 2002
Soccer standout named first team all-PIL and second team all-state as a senior. Member of Oregon’s Olympic Development state team as a senior, playing as a goalkeeper. Also played basketball and baseball for the Cardinals, and was a first team all-PIL selection in both.
McDaniel (formerly Madison)
Michael C. Booton, class of 1978
Won the PIL cross country championship as a senior, and won PIL track and field championships in the 1,500 and the 3,000.
Bill Gassaway, class of 1978
Named to first team all-PIL and second team all-state for baseball as a senior. Also played football and basketball. Played baseball as a designated hitter and utility player at Oregon State.
Dave Gassaway, class of 1974
PIL All-East honoree in basketball and baseball. Named all-city as a junior and All-Metro first team for baseball as a senior. Played baseball at Oregon State for two years but had to retire early due to albow surgery.
Jennifer Labsch McKee, class of 1992
Was selected as a member of the all-PIL first team in softball three times. Also a second team all-PIL selection in volleyball and an all-PIL honorable mention in basketball.
Devon Pearce, class of 1988
As a senior, was the state’s leading scorer, led the PIL in rushing yards and was an all-PIL first team honoree in football. Played collegiately at Idaho and is the Vandals’ single-season rushing leader (1,393 yards in 1990) and the team’s third leading rushing all-time.

Marshall
Brian Ree, class of 1988
All-PIL honoree at defensive back and an all-PIL honorable mention at quarterback. Named to the all-state team as a punter. Also played baseball, and was a second team all-PIL shortstop and pitcher. Played college football and baseball at Linfield.
Rhonda Rogers Ree, class of 1987
First team all-PIL selection in soccer as a senior, and a two-time all-PIL first team selection in softball. Helped the team win PIL titles in softball as a freshman and junior. Played college soccer at Pacific University.
Jerry Reese, class of 1976
All-PIL wide receiver as a senior. Won the city championship in the 100-meter hurdles as a sophomore and won the 100-meter hurdles state championship as a senior.
Roosevelt
Geoff Dilkes, class of 1998
All-PIL first team selection in soccer as a junior and a four-year team captain. Given first team all-PIL honors as a pitcher and second team all-PIL as an outfielder in his senior year, going undefeated in PIL play for the city title.
Livia Strandberg, class of 2015
All-PIL first team and second team all-state for volleyball as a junior and senior. Named the PIL Player of the Year as a senior. In basketball, named to first team all-PIL three years in a row. Played both sports at Clark College and then played volleyball at Concordia University.
