EXCLUSIVE: Actress Diana Hopper has wrapped production on the Los Angeles shoot for Or Else, an indie horror thriller marking her debut feature as writer-director, in which she also stars.
Kylie Liya Page (The Girl from Plainville) leads the cast opposite Hopper.
The film follows college freshman Tabbie Lee (Page) as she befriends the enigmatic Killian (Hopper). But as the two grow closer, who Killian really is — and what she truly wants — begins to take a stranglehold on Tabbie’s life.
Thomas Kuc (Game Shakers), Archie Kao (Interior Chinatown), Jack Seavor McDonald (Never Have I Ever) and Rachael Harris (Lucifer) round out the cast. The film’s producers are Peter Winther (The Patriot, Aftermath) and Alex Russell, who, as an actor, is known for his work in films like Chronicle and the CBS series S.W.A.T.
In a statement to Deadline, Hopper noted how important it was to her to shoot the film in Los Angeles. “In a time when so little is shooting here, we not only found it important from an industry and cultural standpoint, but from a creative one as well,” she said. “The look and feel of this place is unlike anything else. Movies look like L.A. because, for so long, this is where everything shot. It’s inherently cinematic. We wanted to capture that feeling and be a part of that history.”
Best known for her role as Denise, the daughter of Billy Bob Thornton’s attorney character Billy McBride, in the Amazon series Goliath, Hopper has more recently been seen starring opposite Dylan O’Brien in the M. Night Shyamalan-produced Max Original film Caddo Lake. She is repped by Silvera Arougheti Entertainment Group and Paradigm.
