John Cena Teases Final Match With Another WWE Rival

John Cena may have hinted at another potential opponent for his ongoing retirement tour. A recent cryptic social media post has sparked speculation among the WWE fans.

WWE has already announced that Cena’s final match will take place at a Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. While reports suggest that GUNTHER is the planned opponent for that match, Cena’s latest post has introduced another name into the conversation.

On Wednesday, October 8, the 17-time World Champion posted a photo of The Miz to his official Instagram account. As is typical for Cena’s Instagram, the photo was posted without a caption, leaving fans to interpret its meaning.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – APRIL 20: John Cena is introduced before his match against Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship during WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium on April 20, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The timing of the post is notable, as October 8 is also The Miz’s birthday, which could be a simple explanation. However, given Cena’s history of using his social media to tease future programs, many believe it could be a hint at a future match.

The speculation is further fueled by recent comments from The Miz himself. In an interview with The Schmo, the former WWE Champion expressed frustration that fans are asking for a match between Cena and AJ Styles instead of another encounter with him.

“It pisses me off as a WWE Superstar because I feel like I have had a big rivalry with Cena, I’ve had multiple WrestleManias with John Cena,” The Miz said. “And yet the fans aren’t sitting there saying, ‘Hey, we want The Miz vs John Cena.’ They’re saying, ‘We want AJ Styles vs John Cena.’”

The two do have a significant history, most notably main eventing WrestleMania 27 for the WWE Championship. Cena has also praised The Miz in the past, calling him one of the most underrated stars in the company’s history.

While Cena’s cryptic post has the wrestling world talking, his immediate focus is on a different rival. This Saturday, October 11, at the Crown Jewel premium live event, John Cena is scheduled to face AJ Styles in the next major stop on his retirement tour.
