Kevin Durant is from Washington D.C., and he is going to always going to be a fan of his hometown Commanders. However, during an appearance on the Up and Adams Show hosted by Kay Adams, the Houston Rockets star said that NFC East rival Dallas is a team to look out for.
“I hate to say this because they’re our rivals, and I don’t like them at all, but the Cowboys are a team that is better than their record,” Durant said. “I think they’re better than what they have shown. Some of the outcomes. Ties, they’re supposed to win that game. Losing to the Bears. I just think they’re better than what they have shown.”
Even though they are rivals, one area that Durant respects about the Cowboys and how they have guys who improve.
“I respect Jerry Jones and the talent they get in there,” Durant said. “I respect how Dak has improved and where he has come from at Mississippi State to what he is now. CeeDee Lamb is my dog. I love those players and how they progress. I don’t like the shield but the players themselves. I see how a lot of those guys develop and I appreciate it.”
Giving your rival a compliment is never an easy thing for a sports fan to do, even if you’re one of the greatest scorers the NBA has ever seen.
Durant is also right though there is a lot to be optimistic as a Cowboys fan, even though the record is only 2-2-1. In the 37-22 win against the New York Jets in Week 5, the team played its most complete game of the season.
Dak Prescott was terrific all day, throwing for 237 yards and four touchdowns. He did all of that despite missing two of his top three receivers, and four of his five starting offensive line.
The Cowboys defense has been a major issue all year long, but for the first time this season they showed up in a big way.
The Cowboys next game is against a Carolina Panthers team that is having their own issues, and the defense is going to see a similar foe running the ball in Rico Dowdle. He is coming off the best game of his career, as he rushed for 206 yards in the comeback win against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4.
However, a Week 7 game is looming on Oct. 19 as the Cowboys host the Commanders. The game is in Dallas, which isn’t too far of trip for Durant to attend the game. While we know who he will be cheering for, he understands the Cowboys have a chance to be a really good football team this season.
