Watch Brazil commentary team including UFC legend react as Alex Pereira knocked out Magomed Ankalaev
Alex Pereira sent fans, fighters, and analysts into a frenzy with his remarkable performance at UFC 320.
Saturday’s pay-per-view in Las Vegas saw Pereira enter the UFC history books as the first light heavyweight since Jon Jones to regain the title at 205 pounds.
To achieve that feat less than seven months after being unseated, Pereira brutally knocked out Magomed Ankalaev just 80 seconds into the UFC 320 main event.
The vicious finish sent the fans wild inside T-Mobile Arena. But it’s safe to say that not many were as jubilant as three men sat cageside…
Brazilian commentator screams ‘Chama’ at UFC 320 as Alex Pereira KO brings Hall of Famer to his feet
The broadcast team of Jon Anik, Joe Rogan, and Daniel Cormier are known for their hilarious reactions to the most shocking and memorable finishes inside the Octagon. At UFC 320, though, they were outshone by their Brazilian counterparts.
Brazil’s broadcast was helmed by play-by-play commentator Andre Azevedo, with former UFC fighters Vitor Miranda and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira providing color commentary.
Azevedo went crazy as Pereira unloaded ground-and-pound on Ankalaev, then simply screamed ‘Poatan’s’ catchphrase when the victory was confirmed.
“He will be champion! Go ‘Poatan’! Go for the knockout,’ Azevedo said excitedly (translated by @HappyPunch via X).
“Hard elbows, hard elbows. It’s over! Chamaaaaaa! Chamaaaaaa!
“The belt is ours, Brazil! Chama ‘Poatan’! Champion! … It’s all ours!”
Meanwhile, former interim heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Famer ‘Minotauro’ was brought to his feet.
All three commentators later stood alongside Pereira and joined in with the Brazilian’s usual post-fight victory dance after he exited the cage.
Alex Pereira controversially named the ‘best Brazilian fighter to ever exist’
Pereira’s return to the light heavyweight throne had plenty of prominent Brazilian names throwing plaudits his way, but one man had a bolder claim than most.
A number of huge combat sports names have come out of the country, but Renato Moicano sees Pereira as Brazil’s best-ever.
“The best Brazilian fighter to ever exist,” Moicano wrote on X.
The UFC lightweight contender received plenty of backlash for that remark, with a number of fans pitching the likes of Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo as names who are more deserving of the label.
