Kochi Water Metro’s new terminals to be inaugurated on Saturday

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the newly completed Mattancherry and Willingdon Island terminals of the Kochi Water Metro at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The inaugural function will be held at the Mattancherry terminal and will be presided over by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve.

Constructed at a combined cost of ₹38 crore, the two terminals will raise the total number of operational terminals to 12. The 8,000-sq. ft. Mattancherry terminal, situated near the heritage-listed Dutch Palace, has been designed to blend with the cultural and architectural legacy of the area.

The 3,000-sq. ft. Willingdon Island terminal, located near the old ferry jetty, also mirrors the region’s maritime character and history. During construction, existing trees and greenery were carefully preserved, ensuring minimal ecological impact, a press release said.

Mayor M. Anilkumar, Deputy Mayor K.A. Ansia, Hibi Eden, MP, MLAs K.J. Maxi and T.J. Vinod, and Kochi Corporation councillor T. Padmakumari will address the gathering.

The new terminals were expected to significantly boost connectivity, commerce, business, and tourism in Mattancherry and Willingdon Island, the release said.
