Nobody could have predicted the impact that Daniel Jones was going to have on the Indianapolis Colts. While Jones in not the singular force pushing the team to gritty wins, he is experiencing a resurgence in Shane Steichen’s system.

Jones has 1,290 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions through the air. He has also rushed for 56 yards and has three rushing touchdowns. Simply put, he is seemingly back to being the quarterback the New York Giants initially saw when he was drafted.
Jones and the Colts are 4-1, and the team is being talked about as one of the true contenders for the AFC crown. There is plenty of football left to play, but Indianapolis is high on the list of teams that could make some noise in the playoffs.
That said, there is some predictions floating around regarding Jones. The former Minnesota Vikings and Giants quarterback joined the Colts on a one-year $14 million contract, which is no small amount. However, if he continues to play like an MVP, the Colts may want to lock him up for longer.

Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN discussed players who could be in line for an extension, and Jones’ name came up. In fact, they think that the Colts may work on a sort of in-season adjustment that could point to Jones remaining with the team long-term.
“I’m fascinated to see whether the Colts would do something with Jones in-season. That one is complicated, because the rules say you must wait a year after signing a guy if you want to adjust his contract in a way that makes his cap number go up. But there are certainly ways the Colts could do that if they chose,” Graziano said.
“But the real answer might be the Indianapolis quarterback whom we just discussed,” Fowler said.
Fowler and Graziano also discussed whether there is a strong belief that Jones has reemerged as a solid quarterback, or if it’s just Steichen’s system that works well for him. There is some apprehension given Jones’ track record in the NFL.
Despite the past issues with the Giants, Jones is playing like an MVP-caliber quarterback, and if he continues to do so the Colts may give him a sort of contract adjustment that is a sort of promise for a new long-term deal once the 2025 season wraps up.
