Boy, 11, 'fell between tram and platform' before horror incident at Metrolink stop

An 11-year-old boy remains in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a tram at a Metrolink stop in south Manchester. A huge emergency services presence descended on the incident at the Crossacres stop on Brownley Road in Wythenshawe at about 3.40pm on Tuesday (October 7) to reports of the incident. It’s understood the victim had fallen ‘between the tram and the platform’ before the tram then started to move away from the stop. He was left with serious, life-changing injuries. He remains in hospital in a stable condition, GMP said in an update. Join the Manchester Evening News WhatsApp group HERE A large cordon was put in place on Browley Road and also surrounding Crossacres Road and Poundswick Lane while police investigations were carried out. An air ambulance, as well as paramedics, advanced clinicians, police and fire crews descended on the incident as the area was sealed off. Tram services to Manchester Airport were cancelled for the majority of the evening, with the police cordon stretching over the tram lines in both directions. Officers were seen conducting enquiries at the scene late into Tuesday evening. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with witnesses now urged to come forward by Greater Manchester Police .
