A celebration of Hmong culture returns to The Sonnentag

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -A celebration to commemorate fifty years since the arrival of Hmong refugees in the U.S. and to spotlight the Hmong community in Eau Claire is kicking off on Saturday.
An Eau Claire Hmong New Year celebration is taking place at The Sonnentag on Saturday, Oct. 11, and Sunday, Oct. 12, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will feature cornhole, Hmong food, volleyball, dancing, and more.
Cheng Cha, The Eau Claire Hmong New Year Chair, said with sports being a new addition this year, they expect an even higher turnout than last year.
“Last year we had almost 4,000 plus,” Cheng said. “This year we are expecting 5,000 plus.”

Parking for the event is available outside of the Sonnentag. Overflow parking will be located at John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center across the street from The Sonnentag, Carson Park and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Cheng said shuttles will be available to transport people from Carson Park to The Sonnentag.
