Father Muller College of Nursing inaugurates new academic year with spirit of service

Mangaluru: The Father Muller College of Nursing, a unit of the renowned Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), inaugurated its academic year 2025–26 with great fervour at the Father Muller Convention Centre, Kankanady. The event marked the commencement of a new academic journey for the 39th Batch of B.Sc. Nursing, 38th Batch of Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, and 34th Batch of M.Sc. Nursing students.

Dignitaries grace the occasion

The ceremony was presided over by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director, FMCI, while Rev. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College, served as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries on the dais included Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital; Rev. Sr. Dhanya Devasia, Principal; Dr. Agnes E. J., Vice Principal, Father Muller School and College of Nursing; and Sr. Nancy, Chief Nursing Officer, Father Muller Medical College Hospital, along with class coordinators.

Ceremony of light and inspiration

The event commenced with a prayer dance, invoking divine blessings and setting a serene atmosphere. Rev. Sr. Dhanya Devasia extended a warm welcome to the gathering, emphasising the virtues of compassion, competence, and commitment that define the nursing profession.

The lighting of the lamp, performed by dignitaries and student representatives, symbolised the enlightenment that education brings.

Inspiring messages from leadership

In his keynote address, Rev. Dr. Michael Santhumayor urged students to embrace their calling with dedication and empathy, highlighting that nursing is not merely a profession but a profound act of service to humanity.

In his presidential address, Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo reiterated FMCI’s vision of excellence in healthcare and education. He encouraged the new students to carry forward the institution’s legacy through integrity, skill, and selfless service.

A memorable start to a noble journey

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Pathima Violet Fernandes, followed by the Institutional Anthem and refreshments.

The inauguration stood as a symbolic beginning for the new nursing batches, inspiring them to uphold the institution’s enduring motto — “Heal and Comfort.”
