Udupi: A temple visit ended in tragedy on Saturday when a sambar deer leapt onto a moving motorcycle, killing a 22-year-old youth and injuring another near Shankaranarayana.
Accident details
The deceased has been identified as Shreyas (22). His friend Vignesh (19), a resident of Kavradi village in Kundapur, who was riding pillion, lodged the police complaint.
The duo was returning from Kamalashile Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple around 2:30 p.m. when the accident occurred on the Siddapur–Kamalashile road near Tarekodlu. Shreyas was riding the motorcycle when a sambar deer suddenly jumped onto their vehicle, throwing both riders onto the road.
Medical treatment and fatality
Locals rushed the injured youths to the Siddapur Primary Health Centre, where they received first aid and were referred to Kundapur for further treatment. While Vignesh was admitted to a private hospital, Shreyas was being shifted to Kundapur Government Hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.
The deer also died in the collision.
Police case registered
A case has been registered at the Shankaranarayana police station, and investigations are underway.
