The management of Excel College, Ejigbo, Lagos and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) have taken far reaching measures to protect the students and meet conditions given by the Lagos State Education Quality Assurance.
At an emergency PTA meeting held at the weekend in the college hall, parents shared their mind on the alleged video in which some students were seen drinking and smoking They agreed to support the college management new measures to foretold further occurrence.
Chairman of Excel College PTA, Sir. Ndubisi Udeagu, said the meeting agreed to work with the college management to meet the conditions set out by the Quality Assurance Unit of the state Ministry of Education.
Udeagu explained that parents aired their views on the viral video and backed steps being taken by the college management to tackle the issue.
“We met with the Quality Assurance Unit on Thursday and certain conditions were given. The college management agreed to implement them immediately,” he noted.
A parent, Mr. Ogunlari Adewale, observed that the college management provided adequate information, which reflects the true picture of what happened in the original viral video.
“I and other parents were aggrieved about the situation but we are going home after the meeting with positive minds. The college management has agreed to install additional CCTV in strategic areas and engagement of additional security personnel to man certain areas”, he stated.
Ogunlari confirmed that the incident happened in May 202, insisting there were two versions of the viral video, one which is the birthday celebration and the second doctored video with a background voice urging parents to withdraw their children from the college, which was the reason for the doctored video.
Another parent with three wards, Mr. Victor Anyali, observed that a parent of the birthday celebratant told ministry officials, the police and even the PTA that what she bought for her son was fruit juice, adding, the whole idea of the doctored video is a campaign of calumny against the college.”
Anyali said other burning issues such as the case of bullying were addressed and overwhelming approval by parents to ensure proper monitoring of the students.
The Director of Studies, Dr. Dele Oke, also confirmed after the emergency PTA, measures to check future re-occurrence were agreed for immediate implementation.
Oke insists that some mischief makers merged a different video with the students celebrating a birthday that depicted the college students were engaged in misconduct.
The director who spoke to newsmen after the PTA meeting acknowledged that steps have been taken to prevent future re-occurrence.
The first video was shot in May 2025, with students drinking but a parent involved told the PTA meeting, she brought fruit juice to celebrate her son’s birthday.
The second according to college happened in April 2025 during the holiday extension class for the SS111 students. The students rolled papers and experimented with smoking through a game they tagged called Pass and Puff and it was recorded. The incident was reported to the college management who took prompt action as the students were banned from attending the graduation event.
Oke told Daily Sun that the college has started to implement some of the measures and would meet with ministry officials to show measures already taken and implemented.
