'We are delighted' - Manchester United announce new deal aimed at helping injury prevention

Manchester United have announced a three-year extension with Canon Medical Systems. United have used Canon Medical for 12 years as part of daily medical operations at Carrington. The company provides cardiac, musculoskeletal (MSK) and general sports medicine imaging, supporting the health and performance of the men’s, women’s, and academy players. The three-year extension will see potential upgrades to the existing range of MRI, ultrasound and healthcare IT systems, as well as the integration of new research-led initiatives at the club. The new agreement proposes research into injury detection and monitoring, as well as sex-based differences in injury patterns, with the data showing ACL injuries are more common for women. Following the announcement, Gary O’Driscoll, head of sports medicine at United, said: “We are delighted to extend our partnership with Canon Medical Systems, a collaboration that has been fundamental to advancing the health and performance of our players over the past 12 years. “Their cutting-edge imaging technology and shared commitment to research have enabled us to enhance injury prevention, diagnosis, and rehabilitation across our men’s, women’s, and academy teams. “This renewed partnership reinforces our dedication to providing the highest standard of care and innovation to support our athletes both on and off the pitch.” Marc Armstrong, chief business officer at United, added: “Player care and performance is incredibly important at Manchester United, across all of our teams and age groups. “So having a partnership with a leading medical systems innovator who understands this and can deliver the most advanced range of diagnostic imaging systems is a huge advantage. “Our relationship with Canon Medical Systems ensures our men’s, women’s, and academy players have access to the very best standard of care from the most advanced medical systems on the market.” The vice president of Canon Medical Systems Europe, René Degros, said: “This extension of our partnership with Manchester United reflects more than a decade of close collaboration and shared commitment to innovation in sports medicine. “From cardiac screening to injury rehabilitation, our imaging systems continue to play a vital role in supporting player health and performance. “We are proud to work alongside one of the world’s largest football clubs as we further expand our research and clinical focus over the next three years.” – Here at the Manchester Evening News, we’re dedicated to bringing you the best Manchester United coverage and analysis.
