A violent confrontation between the youth of Mpatuam in the Ashanti Region and armed military personnel has resulted in the death of one person.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The deceased has been identified as Samuel Danquah, the Assembly Member for Aboabo.
He was allegedly shot dead in the confrontation, while two other residents sustained severe gunshot wounds and are battling for their lives at a hospital.
Details emerging indicate that the chaos was triggered after the youth accused security personnel linked to Asanko Mines of killing a miner the previous day.
In anger, residents blocked major roads, demanding answers and justice.Speaking to the media about the incident,
Kwame Sakyi, Assembly Member for Mpatuam, disclosed that soldiers dispatched to the area engaged the protestors, firing live rounds into the crowd.
“The youth were not happy over the alleged killing of one of their own. In the middle of the scuffle, the soldiers fired into the crowd. Danquah was hit and later confirmed dead at the hospital, while two others remain in critical condition,” he said.
The furious residents reportedly torched vehicles belonging to Asanko Mines, sending plumes of smoke across the community.
