Since recently moving here, what’s your favorite Columbia discovery so far?
I didn’t know that the Columbia area has multiple riverside trails. The “riverwalks” are wonderful places to exercise or spend time with family and friends while surrounded by nature.
What makes Columbia so unique compared to other places you’ve lived?
The Statehouse’s proximity to restaurants, stores, offices and the courts shows me Columbia’s character as a political and judicial center with dynamic economic activity.
Why should people subscribe to local journalism?
There’s no substitute for being right there, talking to people face to face, being in the room where things are happening. I got into this business because I wanted to give a voice to people in the margins. That’s how journalism serves the community. But this work costs money. Public records requests in South Carolina take longer and cost more than other states I’ve worked in. We pay for those on behalf of the public so we can peer behind the curtains of what’s happening with local and state governments.
