Santorini, Athens Are Waiting: IndiGo To Start Direct Flights To Greece From Delhi, Mumbai In 2026

Starting January 2026, your dream of standing before the Parthenon or watching sunsets in Santorini (albeit with a big crowd) will be easier than ever. IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is set to launch six weekly nonstop flights connecting Delhi and Mumbai with Athens, using the next-generation Airbus A321XLR aircraft. India To Athens Direct FlightsUntil now, flying to Greece from India required travellers to take long layovers in the Middle East or Europe. IndiGo’s new nonstop service eliminates that hassle, giving travellers direct access to Athens, from where you can head to popular spots in Greece like Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete. India’s First Airbus A321XLR FlightsThe Athens route will mark the debut of the Airbus A321XLR in Indian skies. With a range of 8,700 km, this aircraft can fly longer distances usually reserved for bigger jets, while keeping costs competitive. Travellers will get to choose between standard economy and IndiGo’s new “Stretch” seating, offering more legroom for added comfort on the nearly 8-hour journey. Greece As A Favourite Among IndiansAccording to the Greek Tourism Enterprises Association (INSETE), Greece has climbed to become the 26th most popular destination for Indian travellers, outranking even the USA, Canada, and Australia. With 41.2% of Indians planning international trips with overnight stays and many taking multiple vacations a year, Greece stands to see a big boom from India. Interestingly, Greece is also betting big on India. Greek flag carrier AEGEAN Airlines is planning its own direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Athens starting spring 2026. With two airlines flying this route, options for Indian travellers will only get better; competition may even drive fares down, making Greece more affordable and accessible. Why Athens Should Be On Your 2026 Travel ListThink ancient temples, vibrant tavernas, island hopping, and stunning beaches. Athens itself offers must-visits like the Acropolis, Parthenon, Panathenaic Stadium, and lively Plaka district. From there, a short ferry or flight takes you to the postcard-perfect landscapes of Santorini and Mykonos.
