Bruce Buffer recently discussed the possibility of a future UFC Hall of Fame induction. He said it would be very meaningful and an incredible honor.
Buffer, a longtime UFC announcer, joined the promotion in 1996. He took a full-time role at UFC 13. Known for his high-energy fighter introductions, his catchphrase, ‘It’s Time!’ has become iconic, especially for main event fighters.
During an exclusive interview with Heavy Sports, Buffer shared his thoughts on the UFC Hall of Fame. While fighters are typically inducted, the promotion has made exceptions. Producers, matchmakers, and the original owners have received the honor.
With nearly 30 years in the UFC, Buffer is a likely candidate for an induction. He, along with Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg, were staples on UFC broadcasts for decades. However, he isn’t focusing on whether he will be inducted or not.
“I think it’s an honor [to be inducted], Joe Rogan, I haven’t worked with Mike [Goldberg] for a long time, but he’s definitely legendarily a part of the history of the UFC,” Buffer said. “If I’m ever given that great honor, so be it, I would love that. But, I’m not sitting here craving it, thinking about it.”
Bruce Buffer Shares How He Would React if Inducted into UFC Hall of Fame
Buffer also shared how he would react if inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. As a longtime UFC announcer has witnessed many legends react to the news. Most often, the response is emotional.
Buffer believes his own reaction would most likely be similar if he found out during a UFC broadcast. Although he would be emotional and grateful, it’s still not something he thinks about too much.
“If it happens, I’ll probably be emotionally gripped, as many people have when suddenly be surprised by it,” Buffer told Heavy Sports. “It would be an honor, it’d be incredible. But, I’m not waking up every day going, ‘Am I going to be there?’ I might not, who knows.”
Buffer deserves an induction based on his long tenure and contributions. However, the UFC will ultimately decide if and he will be honored.
Buffer’s Former UFC Colleague Shares Thoughts on Potential Hall of Fame Induction
Mike Goldberg, Buffer’s former colleague, also shared his thoughts on possibly being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Goldberg, like Buffer, joined the UFC full time in 1997. He remained with the promotion until 2016. Before UFC, he gained play-by-play experience calling NHL games for the Detroit Red Wings and the NHL on ESPN. In addition, he was also a former sideline reporter for the Chicago Bulls.
Goldberg said he would be honored to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. However, he emphasized that the relationships he built during his UFC career are just as meaningful, if not more.
