Amazon’s October Prime Day — officially titled Prime Big Deal Days — is officially underway. Unlike July Prime Day, which spanned four days, the fall event is 48 hours only, live on Amazon.com from Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 12:01 a.m. PT to Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11:59 p.m. PT.
In many ways, the sitewide savings event rivals — and surpasses — long-standing shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And in some ways, it does not. After years of tracking and reporting on these major annual sales, The Hollywood Reporter‘s shopping editors have narrowed down the top five categories that see steeper discounts now vs. Black Friday.
In no particular order, THR‘s Prime Day “Big Five” include:
See below for a more in-depth breakdown of what’s worth snagging vs. waiting on (and why), plus the top finds in each category.
The Best Amazon October Prime Day 2025 Deals
1. Beauty
Black Friday tends to see steep savings on electronics and clothing, but beauty rarely sees a discount as big as what Prime Day is offering.
This spans cosmetics, skin-care devices and hair tools, specifically Dyson products, which are currently up to 25 percent off. And since the brand’s cult-favorite hair stylers tend to sell out quickly, it’s worth scoring the discount during Prime Day rather than waiting to see if they’re still in stock and on sale for Black Friday.
2. Amazon Devices
This one is relatively self-explanatory, but we’re here to confirm: there is no better time than Prime Day to save on Amazon devices. This includes savings of up to 50 percent on:
3. Luggage
With savings of up to 50 percent on Samsonite, it’s strategic to get your luggage at a deep discount now and have new gear ready to go for Thanksgiving and holiday travel.
4. Household Essentials
There’s no better time than Prime Day to stock up on the “boring things.” They may not be the most thrilling of purchases, but your future self (and your wallet) will thank you for snagging discounted everyday essentials, like cleaning supplies, oral care, trash bags, batteries, pet supplies, household needs and personal care products while prices are at an all-time low.
5. Seasonal: Outdoor Furniture and Holiday
This is a two-parter, but in all honesty, “THR‘s Prime Day Big Five” has a way nicer ring to it than “Big Six.” With that said, as summer turns to fall, there’s no better time than October Prime Day — and this time of year, in general — to save big on outdoor furniture along with general patio, lawn and garden supplies.
Finally, we recommend preparing ahead with Prime Day savings on festive decorations and holiday gifts. It’s a win-win: get the deal and don’t stress about (or pay for) last-minute shipping.
