Emmerdale villain John Sugden's sinister crimes and one 'fans forgot'

As the net tightens around Emmerdale’s villainous John Sugden, viewers would be forgiven for forgetting everything the killer has actually done. John, portrayed by Oliver Farnworth , was revealed as Nate Robinson’s murderer in chilling flashback scenes earlier this year. The motive behind Nate’s murder and his subsequent fate were unveiled in a heart-wrenching twist. But that’s not all – a slew of other dark secrets from John’s past have surfaced, including some heinous acts amidst his recent deeds. He seems to have fooled everyone, but will he finally get his just desserts? John intentionally endangered people’s lives so he could swoop in and play the hero. However, according to flashbacks, this plan backfired, resulting in Nate’s death. Soon after, it was revealed that John had left his ex, Aidan Moore, in a coma, staging an accident that resulted in Aidan’s injuries. The last we saw of Aidan, he was suffering a cardiac arrest and was put back into a coma, reports the Mirror . There might even be a crime we’re unaware of. In the April flashbacks, a specific attack featured twice, hinting at its connection to John’s saviour complex and the numerous schemes he’s masterminded. At the time, this seemed unlikely as it involved his current husband, Aaron Dingle. Fans may recall that in September 2024, Aaron was embroiled in illegal fighting, with Billy Fletcher and Ross Barton participating in matches. Aaron found himself in need of assistance, with medic John stepping in to ensure safety. However, a match at the farm was abruptly halted when John decided to involve the police. In the midst of this chaos, Aaron was suddenly assaulted and left in a critical condition. John leapt into action, saving Aaron and revealing that his lung had collapsed. John reassured everyone that Aaron would recover after he administered swift treatment on the farm. He informed Mack that Aaron was out of danger thanks to his intervention, but did John mastermind the entire attack? Aaron isn’t the only one who has been ‘rescued’ by John, as highlighted by the villagers in the most recent episode. The full extent of his crimes was revealed as we saw the ‘rescues’ and what truly transpired. He drugged Chas, sent emails cancelling her wedding, hurled a brick through her pub window, and tormented both her and Liam while framing Ella for everything. He also induced Jacob’s allergic reaction, fully aware of his nut allergy, and then saved his life when Jacob’s EpiPen went missing. He rescued Ruby and Moira during the barn fire – while he didn’t start the fire, he delayed helping them when Moira discharged the gun. However, his most serious crime is the murder and subsequent cover-up of Nate. We witnessed him injecting Nate with an unknown substance, and in a recent episode, he confessed to Mack Boyd that Nate had suffered a severe reaction to the medication. Speaking of Mack, a scene in August saw John shoot him with an arrow and hit him with a rock, before it was confirmed he’d used the rock to break his ankle. John knew Mack was onto him and took him captive in an underground bunker. Mack made a bid to flee only to be captured once more, while John began drugging Aaron over his fling with his ex Robert Sugden. Robert, also onto John over his crimes, rushed to the cottage, where the couple were on Monday, to save his ex. After a fight with his brother John, events took a shocking turn, just as Aaron finally rumbled his husband’s dark lies. John framed Robert to the police before dragging Aaron off a cliff, with their fates unknown. As for Mack, he remains chained up in the bunker, and it’s not looking good for him.
