Son Ye Jin is returning to the screens after a hiatus of nearly three years. She put acting on the back burner and focused on her son with her actor-husband Hyun Bin. She gave birth to her first child in November 2022. Now, as the South Korean actress is making her comeback, she has opened up about the challenges and new responsibilities that motherhood brings.
At one of the promotional interviews for her new film No Other Choice, directed by Park Chan Wook, Son Ye Jin opened up about the adjustments and growth she has experienced since becoming a mother. The actress shared that she would always plan a getaway right after wrapping up a project. However, this time it is different. With a child at home, planning a trip got difficult for her. “I’ve always loved travelling, and after finishing a project, I would always go on a trip. But after having a child, it’s much harder now,” she said as quoted by Kbizoom.
Besides this, the Crash Landing On You actress also spoke about her upcoming film, in which she acts alongside Squid Game actor Lee Byung Hun. Son Ye Jin admitted that she was hesitant to say yes to the film after getting married and having children. However, a bit of encouragement from actress Lee Min Jung persuaded her to agree to it, and on top of that, Lee Byung Hun’s presence was another aspect that convinced her to take on the role in the film, which was smaller than she had expected.
The director of the upcoming black comedy thriller shared that he was sceptical at first when he offered the role to Son Ye Jin. He wasn’t sure if she would agree to do it. To his surprise, she said yes to the film but had one condition. “I thought she might refuse, so I prepared myself. But what I found impressive was her request: ‘Please make sure that after the movie is released, my friends don’t ask, ‘Why did you do that?’” Park Chan Wook mentioned.
