Train travel in India can be an overwhelming experience, especially for international tourists who are accustomed to more organised and quieter rail journeys. British travel vlogger Alex shared his experience of travelling in Indian trains on Instagram. The video captured the chaotic atmosphere on the locomotive. He claimed passengers used their phones in loud volumes without using earphones.
The footage showed Alex sitting on a berth, surrounded by fellow passengers. In the background, a cacophony of sounds was heard. While someone blasted music at full volume, other travelers chatted loudly among themselves, creating a deafening din. The text on the clip read, “I love travelling on Indian trains because everyone shares their music, phone calls, reels, movies and gaming audio with you. ”

What Was Internet’s Reaction?
The video went viral on Instagram and sparked mixed reactions. Viewers sympathised with Alex and acknowledged the lack of civic sense and shortcomings of train travel in India.
One user wrote, “This is so true. And it’s not just in trains but in hospitals and every other public place. Many times I request them to reduce the volume, but most of the time I just let it go because I know they won’t even understand what wrong they are doing. Unfortunately, the civic sense is alien to us Indians.”
Another added, “Some even play loud music even after 10 pm too.”
Someone else commented, “As an indian, i have a hard time living with indians. They have zero sense of how loud they are and never care if anyone is sleeping or sharing space. I have roommates like this.”
A viewer sarcastically remarked, “Just helping you save on that Spotify subscription… How generous.”
“My fave is when it’s a sleeper train. Personally, I love hearing uncs first time on a smartphone. Especially as he doesn’t realise other people also have ears,” read a comment.
