Prize money for the State Teachers’ Award will be enhanced from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000, Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has said.
He was speaking at a function to give away the State Teachers’ Award 2025 here on Wednesday.
The Minister said the prize money for the Prof. Joseph Mundassery Memorial Literary Award would also be increased from ₹10,000 to ₹25,000.
The Minister said a Chief Minister’s ever-rolling trophy was under consideration for schools that admitted maximum number of students to pre-primary and those schools from where maximum number of students appeared for the SSLC and Plus Two exams.
The schools that bagged the trophy would be given priority in infrastructure development.
The Minister said the demand for a uniform for teachers would be discussed with teachers’ organisations. The demand was raised by a student in a note to him at a programme, he said.
The Minister said a programme would be drawn up to improve the facilities at Hermitage where teachers could live post-retirement. This would be ensure better safety and protection for them.
Antony Raju, MLA, presided over the programme.
