Orca Wiesblatt, 25, tragically died in a car crash on Sunday in British Columbia. The former Calgary Hitmen forward played parts of four seasons in the WHL and was preparing for a new chapter in his professional hockey career. “It is with great sadness that we mourn the tragic passing of former Calgary Hitmen player Orca Wiesblatt,” the Hitmen said in a social media statement. “We are heartbroken for his family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him. On behalf of the ownership, management, coaches, players, and staff of Calgary Sports and Entertainment, we extend our deepest heartfelt sympathies during this very difficult time. You are in our thoughts and prayers.” Orca’s hockey journey included 27 goals and 79 points in 138 career games with the Hitmen. Last season, he played as a forward with the Athens Rock Lobsters of the Federal Prospects Hockey League and had signed with the ECHL’s Allen Americans for the upcoming season. He also played for the Brooks Bandits, helping the team win an AJHL title and a Western Canada Cup Championship. Orca Weisblatt Family Orca was part of a well-known hockey family in Calgary. He and his brothers, Ozzy, Ocean, and Oazis, have all played at high levels, from junior leagues like the WHL and AJHL to professional ranks. Ocean played in the Federal Prospects Hockey League, while Oazis currently skates for the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League alongside Ozzy. Their parents, Kimberly White and Art Wiesblatt, who are both deaf from birth, taught their children American Sign Language to communicate. The Wiesblatt family is widely respected within Calgary’s hockey community. They also have a younger sister, Oceania.
