Netflix and its algorithm excels at turning shows into hits that otherwise might have fallen into irrelevance. Sometimes, it does this by taking older shows and giving them a second life when they’re added to the streaming service. But other times, it takes shows produced by other companies and brands them as its own. That’s what Netflix did with “The Hunting Wives,” and it’s become a smash hit out of nowhere this summer.

However, because “The Hunting Wives” wasn’t technically produced by Netflix — Lionsgate initially developed it for Starz — it’s taken longer than expected for Netflix to commit to more episodes. Well, I finally have good news for fans of the salacious thriller, because “The Hunting Wives” has been officially renewed by Netflix for season 2.
On Friday (Sept. 12), Netflix announced that it “decided to tie the knot” with the mystery show for a second season. This shouldn’t have been a surprise given that, as Netflix highlighted in its own announcement, “The Hunting Wives” was in the Netflix Top 10 English TV shows for five weeks, scoring 20 million views during that period.

The show also apparently led to a revival for its source material, May Cobb’s 2021 novel of the same name, as Netflix says the book hit No. 4 on Amazon’s bestsellers list and No. 1 on Amazon’s list of women’s psychological fiction.

Everything we know about ‘The Hunting Wives’ season 2 so far

For those of you who haven’t hit play on “The Hunting Wives” yet, this mystery thriller is set in an East Texas town where there’s plenty of money and even more secrets. The show stars Brittany Snow as Sophie, who just moved from New England into this world of wealth, where of Margo Banks (Malin Ã…kerman), the wife of oil tycoon Jed Banks (Dermot Mulroney), runs the social life for the local women, as leader of a group known as the “Hunting Wives.” As the season goes on, Brittany learns that there is plenty of sex, violence and dark secrets in this Texas town, and by the end of the season, not everyone survives.
Both Snow and Ã…kerman are returning for “The Hunting Wives” season 2, as are Jaime Ray Newman (who plays Callie), Evan Jonigkeit (who plays Graham), and George Ferrier (who plays Brad). We don’t know much else about what to expect in season 2, but Netflix did drop a few hints in its announcement. This next batch of episodes will be based on an original script and will start with Sophie and Margo at odds with each other. Their feud will be short-lived, though, as more secrets and drama force them back together.
