Several chartered accountants have voiced their concerns about not being able to log into the e-filing ITR portal since today morning. But , some CAs and taxpayers said they could log in after repeated tries.Income Tax GuideIncome Tax Slabs FY 2025-26Income Tax Calculator 2025New Income Tax Bill 2025This issue seems to be hitting some taxpayers hard and is mostly happening during office hours, which is pushing some professionals and CAs to do their ITR filing work outside of regular office hours, like at 2AM and so on . CAs also say that this problem is happening because the ITR portal is experiencing an unexpected surge in requests, and the server just can’t handle that many requests all at once. It’s like a tunnel with fixed lanes and a set capacity for a certain mumber of cars. If there are more cars than the tunnel can handle, it gets jammed and the flow of traffic is affected. What do CAs say? Here’s what CAs say:Gaurav Makhijani (Head of Tax for North India and Gujarat) at Roedl & Partner India, said to ET Wealth Online: In the last few days and in particular yesterday, the Income Tax portal has been running quite slow. The main difficulties was faced during downloading AIS, making tax payments, and receiving OTPs for verification. On the utility side, there are still technical glitches in specific areas, such as issues in the automatic computation of capital gains in special cases and offsetting of income. These are more technical in nature but the general frustration is resulting from speed and performance issues. This consumes significant time during the peak filing period. Compared to last year there has been noticeable improvement in the utilities, validations, and overall ease of filing however site performance continues to remain a pain point during the last-minute pressure situation. Also read: House property received by an individual as a gift is taxable in these situation CA Dipak V. You can also try logging to the ITR portal at a different time like after 8PM. The problem lies with so many people trying to access the ITR e-filing portal at the same time. Also try to use incognito mode and clear your browser cookies and site settings. For login related issues email orm@cpc.incometax.gov.in. You should clear your browser’s cache and cookies before logging in to the portal.
