Dedeman, Romania’s leading retailer of construction and home improvement materials, fully backed by Romanian capital, is expanding its operations into the Republic of Moldova through a strategic investment set to generate jobs and strengthen the regional business climate.
The decision to enter the Moldovan market was taken following a highly constructive meeting between Dedeman’s management, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, and other officials from the pro-European, reform-oriented government in Chișinău, which promotes stability and opportunities for foreign investors, the company said in a statement.
“The Republic of Moldova is a market with real development potential, ready to become part of the European Union. This investment reflects our confidence in the future, stability, and prospects of the local economy, as well as our desire to contribute to the development of the community, through the experience and resources we have built in Romania,” said Dragoș Pavăl, President of Dedeman.
Through this expansion, Dedeman will bring to Moldova:
· a multiplier effect in the economy, by creating partnerships with local producers and distributors· European retail and logistics standards, already successfully applied in Romania· significant fiscal and social contributions· professional training programmes and transfer of know-how for employees
With a network of 64 stores nationwide, Dedeman continues its expansion. By the end of this year, the company will open its 65th store in Mediaș, while in 2026 a new unit will open in Giurgiu, completing Dedeman’s coverage across all Romanian counties.
“For us, the decision to come to Republic of Moldova is not just a business move, but the fulfilment of a long-held wish. The fact that Dedeman originated in Bacău, only around 150 km from the border, made this expansion feel like a natural step from the very beginning. We want to offer our neighbours a modern and accessible shopping experience, at the standards our customers in Romania are used to, while contributing to the local economy,” Dragoș Pavăl added.
The Pavăl Holding group made its first international investments in 2023 in the tourism sector. In 2025, the Pavăl brothers consolidated this international opening through the acquisition of the Praktiker Hellas DIY chain in Greece, one of the most important transactions in the region. Entry into Moldova is thus a natural continuation of this regional development vision.
“We are coming to Republic of Moldova not only as investors, but as partners of local communities. We truly believe in the enormous potential of this country and in its European path,” added Dragoș Pavăl.
This strategic decision also carries symbolic weight: Dedeman, a successful Romanian entrepreneurial brand, is entering Moldova at a time when the country is affirming its economic maturity and openness to new opportunities, while consolidating its pro-European orientation.
