Former world champion Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton has been found dead at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, on the morning of September 14, 2025.
He was 46 years old.
Police confirmed that officers were called to Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45 a.m. after receiving a report from a member of the public.
Hatton’s body was discovered at the scene. Greater Manchester Police have stated that his death is not being treated as suspicious. A police cordon was placed around the property while officers carried out investigations.
The news has shocked the sporting world and devastated Hatton’s legion of fans, who followed his journey from a local hero in Manchester to one of Britain’s greatest boxing champions.
A Storied Career
Born on October 6, 1978, in Stockport, Hatton rose to fame in the early 2000s with his relentless fighting style and powerful body shots that earned him the nickname “The Hitman.”
He held multiple world titles, including:
IBF Light-Welterweight Champion (2005–2006)
WBA Light-Welterweight Champion (2005–2009)
IBO Light-Welterweight Champion (2005–2010)
WBA Welterweight Champion (2006–2007)
Before his world title triumphs, he also captured the British, Commonwealth, and European belts, establishing himself as a fighter to watch.
Hatton fought some of the sport’s biggest names, including Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, often backed by thousands of loyal traveling fans.
In recognition of his achievements, he was named Fighter of the Year in 2015, cementing his place in boxing history.

Away from the ring, Hatton was open about his battles with mental health and substance abuse. He survived previous suicide attempts and worked to rebuild his life and relationships, particularly with his family.
