Help Me, Help You, Help Each Other: Staffordshire homebuilders support local community organisation

Located near the Olive Park and Poppy Fields developments, the group was created to provide a safe, confidential, and judgment-free zone for service users to connect with others who truly understand the struggles of life, helping each other through difficult times.

The donation to Helping Each Other Uttoxeter will be used to buy accessible tools for those who attend the charity’s garden plots, such as extendable forks, shovels and hoes.

Jasmine Short, Founder of Helping Each Other Uttoxeter, said: “This donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes will make a huge difference to those who attend our group, allowing them to participate in the upkeep of the garden plots.

“Gardening is one of the tools our users can use to help with mental wellbeing. Any remaining money once tools and materials for raised boxes have been bought will be spent on courses for our volunteers, such as physical and mental health first aid, which is vital in the running of our groups.”

Its groups and activities reach many individuals with a wide range of ages and lived experiences. The organisation also offers help lines and signposting through its social media pages.

Quarterly, the charity compiles a list of all the groups and activities that run in Uttoxeter and the surrounding areas, so that local people know where to look for support.

Jasmine continues, “All our groups and activities are free of charge to our service users – excluding the monthly meals – with no referral necessary. We try our best to support individuals with whatever struggles they have, this could include help with form filling, or a Facebook message checking on them.

“Funding for small groups like ours is vital to allow us to keep running and thriving. Small groups like Helping Each Other rely on the generosity of businesses like

Barratt and David Wilson Homes and the public to carry on supporting people in the community.”

Helen Lewis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, said: “We are very proud to support Helping Each Other Uttoxeter. We hope that with this donation, more people can get involved with their Uttoxeter Community Garden initiative and experience the benefits of gardening as a hobby and stress reliever.”

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, adds: “This organisation and the community it has built is one of the many reasons why Uttoxeter is such an inviting place to live for so many people; it has a fantastic network of support in place for anyone struggling to find someone to help.”
