Aurolab’s state-of-the-art eyedrops manufacturing facility inaugurated in Madurai

Chief Economic Advisor (CEA), Government of India, V. Anantha Nageswaran, on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art eyedrops manufacturing facility at Aurolab, part of Aravind Eye Care System, in Madurai.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Nageswaran hailed Aravind Eye Care System for hiring local talent and reaching global heights.

The success story of Aurolab was a combination of dedication, excellence to quality and more importantly empathy, he said.

The enterprises that put serving humanity as their core mission, providing affordable and quality care have a greater commitment to efficiency and productivity than the for profit enterprises. It was this kind of commitment that Aravind Eye Care System demonstrated, he said.

“You don’t have to be a profit-seeking enterprise to strive for excellence. Aravind Eye Care System has placed efficiency, excellence and service commitment in the forefront of this not for profit activity,” he said.

He hailed Aravind Eye Care System for sourcing local talent, training them and making them participate not only in boosting the domestic economy but also providing service to the entire world. This not only provided livelihood, but also boosted self-confidence of the person who was hired. By hiring, training and grooming people from the neighbourhood villages, Aravind Eye Care System has created hope, confidence and pathway for a better life. The contribution is inestimable, Mr. Nageswaran added.

Founder and Chairman of Velammal Education Trust M.V. Muthuramalingam said he was inspired by the contribution of G. Venkataswamy, founder of Aravind Eye Hospital. He said that the institution was providing quality health care at affordable rates.

Drawing inspiration from Dr. Venkataswamy, Mr. Muthuramalingam said he established educational institutions in Madurai and also the International cricket stadium in Madurai which will be inaugurated by former Indian captain M.S. Dhoni on October 9.

Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs, Aurolab, R. Krishna Kumar, welcomed the gathering. Managing Director of Aurolab R. D. Sriram spoke about the establishment of Aurolab in 1992 and its evolution. Head of Pharmaceutical Division Venkatesa Kannan spoke about the evolution of the pharmaceutical division.

Secretary of Aurolab Trust and Director of New Projects S. Aravind spoke about the vision of Aurolab. Executive Director of LAICO R.D. Thulasiraj outlined the objective of Aurolab. Assistant Division Manager Pharma J. Venkateswaran proposed a vote of thanks. Director Emeritus of Aravind Eye Care System G. Natchiar, Chairman R. D. Ravindran, Director Finance N. Venkatesh Prajna and others were present.
