The Wholesome Mind Xperience has joined forces with the Mental Health Authority of Ghana (MHA), supported by the World Health Organisation (WHO), ahead of the 2025 Wholesome Mind Summit, scheduled for World Mental Health Day on Friday, October 10, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, Ghana.
The partnership aims to expand education on mental health and highlight the need for improved care systems nationwide.
This year’s summit is under the theme “Mental Health Awareness for All Ages: Catastrophes and Emergencies in Focus.”
The summit will convene mental health professionals, advocates, caregivers, doctors, families, and policymakers to share knowledge on strengthening Ghana’s response to mental health challenges through a series of panel discussions and mindfulness activities, aiming to inspire open dialogue and promote well-being practices.
Central to this year’s efforts is a project to rebuild the Special Ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital into Ghana’s first Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The facility will provide safe and dignified care for individuals experiencing mental health emergencies.
Lady-Ann Essuman, Managing Attorney VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, noted: “This partnership bolsters our mission to not only raise awareness but to create real change in the lives of people living with mental health conditions.
“We are very much particular about the refurbishment of the Special Ward as it is a step toward ensuring that care is delivered in a way that respects dignity and human rights.”
Speaking about this collaboration, Dr. Dr. Eugene K. Dordoye the Chief Executive of the Mental Health Authority of Ghana emphasised the importance of this private-public sector collaboration for a greater good, stating that:
“Mental health is a public health priority. Working together allows us to increase access to education, strengthen care systems, and create lasting impact across communities.
“This year’s focus on the active and consistent integration of mental health into the management of national crises, disasters and emergencies is both timely and essential.
“MHA is pleased to partner with such a worthwhile cause to address mental health emergencies in Ghana, and we remain deeply grateful to the World Health Organisation for its consistent support in advancing our mission.”
The summit is spearheaded by VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, who are also leading the nationwide and global fundraising campaign to mobilise individuals, corporations, and development partners to support this urgent cause.
Ilt is being held in collaboration with the Mental Health Authority of Ghana (MHA), whose leadership and expertise continue to guide national mental health priorities, with the consistent support of the World Health Organization (WHO), who have been instrumental in strengthening mental health systems across the country.
