Deion Sanders is one of the most passionate and animated coaches in football. While he is usually patrolling the sidelines in Colorado Buffaloes games, there was something off during the Buffaloes’ game on Saturday night.

Sanders was forced to sit on the bench during the game, instead of usually marching up and down the sideline to watch his team. At one point, he also had to remove his shoes due to pain.
Now, Sanders has revealed the scary medical issue he was dealing with that led to his having to sit on the bench. When speaking to reporters, the Buffaloes’ head coach revealed that he might be dealing with more blood clots.

“I think I got more blood clots,” Sanders said when asked about his behavior after the game. “Cat’s out of the bag, alright. I think I got more blood clots. It don’t make sense. I’m hurting like crazy.”
This is a scary situation for Sanders, as he has previously dealt with blood clots in his feet before. Those clots led to him having to have two toes amputated on his left foot in 2021 when he was coaching Jackson State.
“I got a doctor’s appointment on Monday to see what time it is,” he told reporters. “So that’s what’s going on. I’m not getting blood to my leg, that’s why my leg is throbbing.”
Sanders has dealt with multiple health issues in the last few years that are growing concerning. On top of the blood clot issues in 2021, he recently revealed he had bladder cancer that led to his bladder being removed in April.
The cancer diagnosis was something that Sanders kept private, even from his own sons. However, he broke the news to the world when he was given his cancer-free diagnosis.
The hope is that Sanders is not undergoing more stress on his body due to being a coach. The Buffaloes lost to TCU with a final score of 35-21 and the team is 2-4 on the season.
