Vibrant start to Vizianagaram Utsavalu

Vizianagaram Utsavalu commenced on a grand note on Sunday, showcasing the cultural and traditional history of the Fort City. A Sobha Yatra was organised to mark the beginning of the two-day Utsavalu in the historical city. The State government holds this annual festival on the preceding day of Sri Pydimamba’s Sirimanotsavam, which will take place on October 7 (Tuesday).

Along with Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha and Minister for MSME Kondapalli Srinivas, the TDP State president Palla Srinivasa Rao launched the Sobha Yatra from the temple premises to the Vizianagaram Fort. Artists from different parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh showcased their talent in the presence of dignitaries. The artists performed Dhimsa, Tappeta Gullu, Karra Samuu, Garagala dance, Kolatam, Puliveshalu. The childrens’ sword performance caught the attention of many during the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that such events help younger generations know and appreciate the great culture and traditions of the Heritage City.

As part of the Utsavalu, a flower show was organized at the MANSAS ground. A photo exhibition paid tribute to the sacrifices of soldiers, and ascience exhibition was organised within the fort premises. Folk artists showcased their talent at the Lions Community Hall.

Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy, Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan, Superintendent of Police A. R. Damodar and other senior officials coordinated the arrangements at different venues.

Mr. Ramsundar Reddy informed the media that this year the Sirimanotsavam would be conducted between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. He added that with the availability of Stree Shakti — free bus scheme, more women devotees are likely to participate in the festival. Mr. Damodar said that around 2,500 police personnel would be deployed to ensure security during the Sirimanotsavam and Tholellu utsavam , which would begin on Monday.
