Watch: Hikaru Nakamura Throws D Gukesh's King After USA Defeat India; Gets Slammed For Disgraceful Celebration

USA’s Hikaru Nakamura was charged up after his win over D Gukesh and he came up with a disgraceful celebration after leading his team to a 5-0 win over India in the first checkmate event, which took place in Arlington, USA. Nakamura picked up Gukesh’s King and threw it towards the crowd. The crowd cheered for Nakamura as he threw the king. Gukesh kept his calm and didn’t react to the disgraceful celebration. He kept himself busy by arranging his pieces as the American chess team celebrated. The video of Nakamura’s celebration is now viral on X and he is getting slammed for his behaviour after the win. “Crass behaviour would be kind of an understatement, and people justifying this should rather stop watching chess and start watching fake scripted wwe,” a user wrote on X. “Hikaru arrogance is short lived – I’m not surprised as this is his culture. I’m so happy to see Gukesh is same in Victory or Loss – Calmness which makes him greater than any International Chess Player at moment. We have so much to learn from Gukesh & team,” wrote another user. “Unsportsmanlike. Do what they’d do to any other professional athlete/sportsman and fine him according to FIDE policy. Just imagine someone getting popped right in the eye by a random king,” another user wrote on X. Divya Deshmukh, who became the youngest woman to win the FIDE Women’s World Cup in July, suffered a defeat at the hands of Carissa Yip. She was 19 when she won the World Cup. Divya’s title win saw her became a grandmaster. Arjun Erigaisi, who is a grandmaster, lost to Fabiano Caruana. Levy Rozman and Tani Adewumi defeated Sagar Shah and Ethan Vaz, respectively. “I was winning, the crowd knew I was winning, so I was really happy to hear all the noise!” said Caruana.
