School stabbing as teacher and student injured by 'ex-pupil' in horror rampage

A 52-year-old teacher and a 16-year-old student have been injured in a school stabbing this afternoon (Wed) thought to have been carried out by a former pupil.

The incident happened at a horticultural school in Antibes (Alpes-Maritimes) in France.

Police have revealed the attacker was arrested at the scene and the two injured are not in life-threatening situations – the teacher was seriously injured, while the student was only superficially injured.

Antibes Mayor Jean Leonetti told a local publication that the male assailant was a “former student” of the school and that he was “overpowered thanks to the courage of the headmaster [who] spoke to him while armed.”

A police spokesperson said: “The attacker has been arrested, he is no longer a threat.”

The high school where the attack took place welcomes 450 students from Year 9 to preparatory classes, for training in professional, general or technological courses around plant-related professions (landscaping, food, environment, etc.).

The resigning Minister of Agriculture, Annie Genevard, announced on X that violence has ‘no place’ and she would go “immediately to the scene .”

She wrote: “Schools must remain a republican sanctuary: violence has no place there and will never be tolerated .”

Deputy of the French National Assembly, Eric Pauget, wrote a post on X and said: “Thank you to the police, national and municipal, as well as the firefighters for their rapid intervention and their exemplary commitment in this extremely tense situation, symbol of the tragic rise in violence in our country.”
