When it comes to pressuring the quarterback, the Rams are among the league’s elite. Through two games, Los Angeles has registered eight sacks, tying them with two other teams. Interestingly, some of LA’s top pass rushers—Braden Fiske, Poona Ford, and Jared Verse—have yet to record a sack.
However, third-year edge rusher Byron Young has already tallied 3.0 sacks, tied for second in the NFL. Verse, though still searching for his first sack, commands significant attention from opposing quarterbacks, contributing to the Rams’ overall defensive effectiveness. Rookie Josaiah Stewart has also emerged as a reliable contributor, giving the Rams depth and versatility on the edge.
Containing Jalen Hurts
The Rams will aim to exploit Hurts’ early-season struggles. Through two games in 2025, Hurts has completed 34 of 45 passes for 253 yards, with zero touchdowns and three sacks. That averages out to just 119 net passing yards per game. In contrast, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has thrown for 543 yards, three touchdowns, and only one interception.
In last year’s playoff clash between these teams, the Rams held Hurts to 15-of-20 passing for 128 yards, sacked him seven times, and limited him to 64 net passing yards. With Johnson sidelined, the Rams’ pass rush—led by Young and Verse—is poised to apply pressure and potentially force turnovers.
