Upgraded Terminal 2 of IGI Airport to open in October-end

The upgraded Terminal 2 (T2) at IGI Airport is set to become operational from October 26, coinciding with the beginning of the winter schedule.

The GMR AERO-led Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which manages and operates Delhi Airport, has undertaken a comprehensive upgrade of T2 with an eye on the growing passenger traffic demand.b

The terminal, built by the Airports Authority of India 40 years ago, was temporarily closed to carry out the upgrade work in April, when Terminal 1 (T1) became fully operational.

DIAL said T2 will offer a host of passenger-friendly facilities including ‘Self Baggage Drop’ (SBD) facility and new passenger boarding bridges featuring autonomous docking technology.

According to DIAL, from the intervening night of October 25–26, 2025, approximately 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and IndiGo are set to shift operations to the upgraded T2.

“Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade — it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With innovative technologies like the Self Baggage Drop and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travellers, optimising efficiency, and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation,” said DIAL Chief Executive Videh Kumar Jaipuriar.

“As India’s busiest aviation hub accelerates toward its next phase, these world-class enhancements underline DIAL’s vision to deliver an unmatched passenger experience, while supporting the country’s growing air travel aspirations.”
