BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay told his listeners how he found a cure for a little-known health issue that reportedly affects nearly one in 10 people. The 51-year-old was hosting his daily morning BBC radio slot when he shared how he has invested in a new pair of insoles for his shoes to deal with a health problem that has been impacting him for years. Speaking on the show on Wednesday (September 17) he opened up on how the condition manifests itself. He said: “I’ve got Morton’s neuroma in my left foot, and it’s a nerve issue. So I can’t feel three or four of my toes.” Explaining how he has been able to counteract the painful health issue, he added: “So what I did was, I bought some proper insoles. “I actually did some research. I bought elevated, arched insoles (and) the pain has disappeared, the pain has vanished. It’s not cured it, but the pain doesn’t come as regularly as it has done in the past, I’m well happy.” He then jokingly added: “Check your insoles if you’re going raving and misbehaving.” The NHS describes the condition as: “Morton’s neuroma is where there’s a thickening of tissue around a nerve in your foot that’s been irritated or damaged. The symptoms can often be eased with treatments you can try yourself.” While Vernon tried out his own remedy for the painful condition, the NHS have also listed a number of other methods to help try and ease the pain. These include: “Rest and raise your foot when you can, take ibuprofen or paracetamol, try to lose weight if you’re overweight and avoid or reduce impact activities such as running and jumping.” It comes after Vernon revealed how the death of Manchester boxing legend Ricky Hatton “hit” him hard. Ricky died at the age of 46, sparking an outpouring of grief. Vernon said: “Yeah, I haven’t mentioned that, the passing of Ricky Hatton this morning, because it’s a tough one for many people. “And from my personal experience of meeting him, in personal and entertaining environments, at parties and social gatherings and stuff, Ricky was always, always, the one who had a conversation with you, but he knew you, he knew what you were up to. “When I saw the news, it hit me because he was such a lovely bloke and all the tributes that I’ve read all just say exactly the same thing.” Vernon has seen his career go from strength to strength in recent years after he took over from radio legend, Ken Bruce, on his BBC Radio 2 mid-morning slot in 2023. He got his big break when he started presenting T4 in 2000 and he also fronted All Star Family Fortunes from 2006 to 2015. He is set to return to ITV’s M&S Dress the Nation where he will be joined by AJ Odudu on presenting duties, while Loose Women star Frankie Bridge will be a guest judge this weekend. Last series we saw guest appearances from the likes of Mel B, Vogue Williams and Alex Scott. M&S: Dress the Nation airs on ITV at 6.55 pm this evening (Sunday, 21 September).
