Samaritans, the state’s largest suicide prevention organization, will be honored at pre-game ceremonies at Tuesday’s Red Sox game at Fenway Park.
Kacy Maitland, chief clinical officer of Samaritans, will throw out the first pitch in honor of National Suicide Prevention Awareness month.
Maitland will represent Samaritans as part of the Red Sox “Changeup the Conversation,” a season-long initiative, which platforms mental health support organizations.
Maitland is the daughter of former state representative, Robert Cerasoli, who volunteered for the Samaritans 24/7 Helpline, according the organization.
Last year, the organization’s chief executive officer threw the first pitch in recognition of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Justin Long, Samaritans’ media relations manager said.
Long said the organization was invited back to Fenway as part of “Changeup the Conversation,” which the Red Sox launched in May.

The organization called the Red Sox attention to their platform “invaluable.”
“Nearly 50,000 people die by suicide each year–more than the capacity of Fenway Park,” Kathleen C. Marchi, Samaritans CEO said. “We applaud the Red Sox for supporting mental health and wellness as a season-long initiative.”
