Nolan will succeed Lesli Linka Glatter as president. Alongside him, several other key positions were announced: Laura Belsey as National Vice President, Paris Barclay re-elected as Secretary-Treasurer, Todd Holland as First Vice-President, Ron Howard as Second Vice-President, Gina Prince-Bythewood as Third Vice-President, Seith Mann as Fourth Vice-President, Millicent Shelton as Fifth Vice-President, Lily Olszewski as Sixth Vice-President, and Joyce Thomas as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.
On assuming the role, Nolan expressed his gratitude to the guild’s members. He said, “Our industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild’s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank President Glatter for her leadership over the past four years. I look forward to collaborating with her and the newly elected Board to achieve important creative and economic protections for our members.”
He described the appointment as “one of the greatest honors of my career.”
Christopher Nolan has been a member of the DGA since 2001. He has served on its National Board and the Western Directors Council since 2015, and currently chairs both the Theatrical Creative Rights Committee and the Artificial Intelligence Committee.
On the professional front, Nolan is preparing for the release of The Odyssey, the sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Oppenheimer. The film is slated for release by Universal Pictures in July 2026.
Sir Christopher Edward Nolan is a British-American filmmaker known for his Hollywood blockbusters and complex storytelling. He is regarded as one of the leading filmmakers of the 21st century. He became widely known with The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012) and achieved further success with films like The Prestige (2006), Inception (2010), Interstellar (2014), and Dunkirk (2017). After releasing Tenet (2020), Nolan left Warner Bros. Pictures and signed with Universal Pictures for Oppenheimer (2023), a biographical thriller that won him Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture.
